James River Float Trip & Picnic

Cartersville to Westview (4 miles)
Float time: Approximately 4 hours (9am - 1pm)
Canoes, Kayaks, Jon Boats, Tubes, all welcome
Personal Flotation Devices Required (jackets or cushions)
7am Saturday - Meet at Wal-Mart
( 11400 W. Broad St. at Pump Rd.)
Hot dogs and hamburgers furnished at end of trip. BYO Drinks.
Participants meet in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 7am, and work out the logistics for getting our boats to the put-in point in Cartersville. Some of us will drop off picnic gear and some pick-up vehicles at Westview on the way up. We will shove off for Cartersville around 7:30am. Some who live west of Richmond may elect to meet at Cartersville at 8:30am. If you are going to fish, be sure you have a license. You can purchase a fishing license on-line at http://www.dgif.state.va.us/licenses/
Directions from Wal-Mart ( 11400 West Broad Street)
Drive south on Pump Rd about 2.8 miles, and turn right (west) onto Patterson Ave (Rt 6).
Proceed 18 miles west on Rt. 6 thru Goochland and turn left (south) onto Rt. 600.
(Some vehicles transporting boats will stop here and wait for others to drop pickup vehicles and picnic gear at Westview landing)
Vehicles going to Westview to drop pick-up vehicles, proceed 3.7miles south on Rt. 600, and turn right onto Rt. 643.
Go down the hill, cross RR tracks, keep straight and park along Westview's river bank to the right of the boat ramp. Drop off pickup vehicles and picnic gear.
Retrace route back up Rt. 643 and Rt. 600, to rejoin others for drive up Rt. 6 to Cartersville.
Head to Cartersville by proceeding proceeding about 5.3 more miles west on Rt. 6, and turn left onto Rt. 45
Proceed about 4 miles south on Rt. 45, cross bridge, and immediately turn left to Cartersville boat landing.
Before launching, wait for IMPORTANT final instructions on destination and take-out. You must take LEFT (north) FORK of river as you approach a midstream island near Westview .
